Ledyard Mayor Fred Allyn Jr. announced today that he is a candidate for Mayor of Ledyard in the upcoming November election.
Allyn said he had held off with such an announcement until after he had submitted the proposed budget for the next fiscal year. He did not want the speculation of the budget item to be a distraction from the question of his continuing service to the town.
“Several considerations have entered into my thought process prior to this announcement. When I was faced with the question 4 years ago, I believed that I had the background and experiences to aid me in tackling the job. What I did not foresee at that time, was the economy hitting the wall as it did. My many years of leadership in businesses provided significant help in successfully dealing with these very challenging times. On the other side of the coin, I never considered myself a “politician.” The direct and blunt approach with which I addressed problems, (although that was what I had promised), certainly did not make my job easier. Change is never easy for anyone, but change certainly was necessary!
In the coming weeks I will detail the things my staff and I have been able to accomplish. I will also share with you the important and difficult challenges we face and which I believe I am best suited to engage.
For any who I have offended with this work style, I apologize. My desire to continue working on behalf of all Ledyard residents is founded in my knowledge of the important work that remains to be done! For this reason, I am seeking to serve another term as your
Mayor!”
